  • Review of Correspondence
  • Email from John Myers, Town Clerk – Re:  Election Results
Selectman Clifford Emery read the election results for Buxton noting that there are 5,834 registered voters as of October 31, 2014.  There were 3,080 ballots cast in person, and 915 absentee ballots cast for a total of 3,995 ballots cast.  Voter turnout was 68.5%.

  • Review of Projects and Issues
Selectman Booker reported that last Friday a group of students come in from Bonny Eagle High School.  They had asked to come in and visit with the different departments to learn more about public safety and voter registration.  They went to the Police Station, the Fire Department brought a truck over for them, and they went to Public Works, the Transfer Station, and talked with our Voter Registrar.  Selectman Booker said everything went very well and she got good feedback from one of the adults that was with the group that day.  She said they learned a lot, especially at the Transfer Station where they learned how much we recycle.  Selectman Booker thanked the Department Heads for taking time to meet with them and for doing a great job.

Selectman Santolucito said he had the opportunity to spend some time with Deputy Chief Jason Grant who gave him a tour of the 3 fire stations last Thursday.  He said the thing that was most noticeable was the commitment these men and women have.  A lot of them are working full-time jobs, have children and families, and some coach teams; they are committed to what they do and they are doing a fantastic job.  They are always looking for ways to save money he said by doing things themselves that are within the realm of meeting all the standards, and there is a huge training commitment for Paramedics, EMTs and Firefighters.  When he toured the station in Groveville he saw some firefighters and their families there helping get things ready for an open house that was taking place the following night.  He said he saw a real sense of community and commitment, and feels that the community is well-served by the fire service in town.  He also commented on how clean the equipment is kept.  Selectman Santolucito said next he is going to set up some time with Chief Grovo in the Police Department.

Selectman Harmon talked about being here Tuesday and how busy it was with all the people voting, coming and going, and chatting.  She said she was really pleased with the voter turnout.  She went on to say she spoke with our attorney today on a question the Board had about a right of way issue with an easement and she said it is something they cannot do anything about.  She has been working on the Sales Analysis Report and will complete that with our Tax Collector.

Selectman Emery said he worked some more on road issues and talked with our attorney.  He also took care of a situation that came up with regard to buying a new copier for the Code Enforcement Office.  He came in for several hours last night and said he loves being here on voting day because it is a chance to see people he does not get to see and talk to very often.  He also said he was really pleased to see that so many came out and voted.
